A Nickname becomes a labor of love!

It was 14 years ago when my boss at the time had returned to her office expecting the usual disorganization. To her amazement someone had made order out of the chaos. Files were made, the desk had been cleared, everything had a home. When I admitted to the act, she turned to me in wonder and asked, "How did you do it?" I responded, "Just call me Hazel." From that point on, the nickname has stuck. Who was Hazel?

After more than 15 years working in marketing as a corporate manager and executive for companies such as Carter's Baby Clothes, American Film Magazine and most recently Reebok, it was time for a change.  For the past ten years I had been the liaison to Hollywood for Reebok.  It was a wonderful opportunity, but also a very fast paced, demanding and sometimes vacuous land.  I was ready for not only a career change but a life change.  In this hectic world of ours, I wanted to make a difference. Doing what I like to do rather than just "what I do." What would that be?

Through my discovery, I kept coming back to one thought. I want to help people. I had seen so many people who have demanding work and family lives suffering from the stress and disorganization that had taken over their lives. I would provide assistance to time starved individuals. Help them work smarter, not harder.  Help those who don’t know where to start and who are paralyzed from the feeling of being overwhelmed move forward…or just provide the extra hands for those help those who feel that organization is "not their thing” or simply don’t have time.  While on my journey and doing some research, I found the website for NAPO, the National Association of Professional Organizers. I called my best friend... "I've found my people. A whole group of Hazelers." I am going to turn my nickname into a business!" Atmosphere Consulting was born.

Who was Hazel?

For those of you who don't recall or I am dating myself, Hazel is an old TV show centered around a housekeeper named Hazel who ran the Baxter household – a household she ran more efficiently than Mr. Baxter ran his office. Hazel knew what needed to be done. She provided a sense of order and "cleaned up" their space. In the evenings, the family would enter the organized "world of Hazel."
